NOTABLE DEVELOPMENTS THIS WEEK

Litecoin spikes 20% after hoax reports that Walmart would accept the cryptocurrency

Holders of litecoin enjoyed a short-lived, 20% bounce on Monday, following a fake report that Walmart would accept the cryptocurrency as payment at its retail venues.

Litecoin is a virtual coin that has largely been overshadowed by the likes of bitcoin BTCUSD, -0.30%and Ether ETHUSD, -1.41% on the Ethereum blockchain. Some describe as crypto silver compared against bitcoin, which is seen as digital gold.

A message on a verified Twitter account associated with litecoin, which touted the fake partnership with Walmart, was deleted and a number of media venues retracted headlines and stories that had published the falsified report.

Cybereum would like to voice concerns on how the volatility, and sometimes shady activity, associated with the cryptocurrency space, which often dominates the news, affects the credibility of the crypto sector. There are several initiatives in the enterprise blockchain space that can benefit everything from supply-chains to medical records that are not associated with cryptocurrency

Twenty years to the day after a pair of hijacked airliners destroyed the World Trade Center towers and another plane punched a gaping hole in the Pentagon and a fourth passenger jet crashed in a Pennsylvania field after passengers sought to regain control from hijackers, Americans nationwide reflected on the events that forever changed their country. Nearly 3,000 people were killed on Sept. 11, 2001.

The cybereum team honors those that lost their lives that tragic day and those who have since. We will never forget!

Major Program New: Grand Egyptian Museum

Photo by Martin Widenka on Unsplash

When it is completed, the Grand Egyptian Museum just outside of Cairo on the Giza Plateau (and next door to the Pyramids) will not only be the new crown jewel of Egypt, but it will also be one of the largest, most modern, and most renowned museums in the entire world.

Grand Egyptian Museum

Construction of the Grand Egyptian Museum proceeded in three distinct phases:

Phase I was for what’s known as “enabling works,” which refers to the execution of tasks required to clear and secure the site and prepare it for the construction of buildings.

Phase II saw the construction of a fire station, an energy center to supply electricity and air conditioning to the site, and a world-class conservation center apart from the main museum building.

Phase III involved land excavation and contouring, the construction of the main museum building, and site landscaping. The original cost of the Grand Egyptian Museum was estimated to be around $500 million, but delays, changes, and other factors have driven the final price tag for the complex to over $1 billion.
